Match Report

PGs travelled to top of the table Torbay on the back of a loss in the basement battle last week.  Expectations were not high.  PGs were bolstered by James Grant coming back from injury and Dan Vaughan turning up with a few minutes to go before push back.

Captain Geoff with his pornstar moustache had come with a plan, admittedly a little later than most of the team.  Two screening midfielders to protect the defence from being overrun by the opposition midfield and a single high forward.   Ben Pennington came with his own plan, no talking back to the umpires and no axe swinging tackles.

The new plan worked a treat.  Everyone had a job and everyone stuck to it.  Whenever a man was beaten another player stepped into the breach  Torbay were frustrated at every turn.  Eventually, the gold and black wall was breached.  An ambitious shot from the baseline beat keeper Geoff on the near post.  PGs weren't without chances.  PGs won a short corner but the push out was wide.  Bev picked the ball and fired it back into the crowded D.  The ball went in but nobody managed to get a touch on it.

Half time Torbay 1 - 0 PGSOB 2XI

PGs kept the intensity up into the second half.  They turned the game on its head.  Si West fired the ball out of defense to Jacob Perry.  A quick turn and he put Dan Vaughan through one on one with the keeper.  He ran in on the keeper slipping the ball one side of him whilst running round the other side.

PGs continued their hard work.  Unfortunately, a long ball through to a lone striker wasn't dealt with.  Despite a 10m head start Si West was overhauled by the Torbay striker then to add insult to injury Geoff slid out and took him out.  With no one left to beat the striker slipped the ball into the net.  PGs pushed hard for an equaliser but sadly conceded a third goal

Full time Torbay 3 - 1 PGSOB 2XI

Everyone came away from the match with equal measures of disappointment and elation.  Gutted with outcome but happy with the team spirit, hard work and never say die attitude every player showed.

Man of the match James Grant

Dog Dan Vaughan - had to phone his girlfriend to ask what the registration number of his car was
